Duct cleaning and repair, starting with an honest inspection

Dirty ducts are rarely the whole story. Leaky or crushed ducts in a hot attic cost you far more in comfort and power. We inspect first, then recommend cleaning, sealing or replacement, or nothing.

What's included

  • Camera/visual inspection first
  • Source-removal cleaning when it's warranted
  • Leak sealing at joints and boots
  • Crushed or disconnected duct repair
  • Duct replacement with new insulation
  • Return-air and airflow balancing

When duct cleaning actually helps

The EPA's guidance is that duct cleaning is worth it when there is visible mold growth in the ducts, vermin, or excessive dust and debris actually blowing out of the registers, for example after a renovation. It isn't a routine annual service, and anyone selling it as one on every visit should get a second opinion.

We look first and show you what we see. If cleaning won't change anything, we say so.

Leaks: the bigger problem

In a typical South Florida house the ducts run through an attic that reaches 130°F or more in summer. A disconnected boot or a leaking return pulls that hot, humid attic air straight into the system, which means higher bills, rooms that never cool, and humidity problems. Sealing and repairing duct leaks is often the most valuable thing a duct visit does.

When ducts should be replaced

  • Flex duct that is crushed, torn, sagging or delaminating
  • Insulation that's wet, missing or moldy
  • Ducts sized for a system that has since been replaced with a different size
  • Rooms that never cool, even with a correctly sized system

When we replace a system we check the ductwork as part of the Manual J/Manual D review, so a new system isn't paired with ducts that can't deliver its air.

Air Duct Cleaning & Repair: questions

How often should ducts be cleaned?

Only when there's a reason: visible mold, pests, or real debris blowing out. Routine cleaning every year or two isn't recommended by the EPA.

Will duct cleaning lower my bill?

Cleaning alone rarely does. Sealing leaks and fixing crushed or disconnected ducts often does.

How long does duct cleaning take?

Typically a few hours for an average home, depending on the number of runs and access.
